Global Goals Approval Day TODAY!!

UN Summit on the Global Sustainable Development Goals

It’s finally here. After many years of consultation, reading and redrafting of policy and ideas, completing surveys and taking selfies, history has arrived!

Today marks one of most important and historical days of the last 10 years. Today, the Global Sustainable Development Goals will be approved and adopted by the United Nations.

Ireland has played a key role in this global process. Together with Kenya, Ireland has co-ordinated the entire process which has involved 193 world leaders, 17 goals, and 169 targets – never mind the millions of everyday citizens and NGOs who have worked to influence and shape this new moment/movement in time. It has been a huge workload, a massive undertaking, and now we are here!

Today, you can be part of history and tune in to watch events as they unfurl LIVE at the UN. From 2.30pm (approx), click on http://webtv.un.org

Some of those speaking today include The Pope, Shakira, Angelique Kidjo, UNSG Ban Ki-moon, and Malala. Taoiseach Enda Kenny will deliver a statement on behalf of Ireland. Enda will speak at 5.45/5.50pm (Irish time) and this can be viewed live via http://webtv.un.org. Please tune in, inform your supporters and let Enda know what you think of his statement via social media @EndaKennyTD.

This is a really exciting time for the world where we must take action for ourselves, future generations, and the planet.

Ireland’s two UN Youth Delegates will attend the opening ceremony today and they will be tweeting out via @orlmurf and @ONOLiathain. Feel free to interact with them online or via unyouth@nyci.ie today and throughout their stay in New York for the next 3 weeks.

We would also encourage you to watch our short video on the new Global Sustainable Development Goals  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98kHTlijCd8 and get involved in our www.oneworldweek.ie
